The story

Built by a student who needed this too.

MindCare is a capstone project from Occidental Mindoro State University. It's a self-care planner, a mood log, a chatbot you can rant to, and a way to reach the Guidance Office without having to start the conversation in person.

What drives it

Mission & Vision

Two plain statements: what this is for, and where I'd like it to go.

Mission

Why we're here

Most students who are struggling never make it as far as the Guidance Office. There's the queue, the office hours, and the part where you have to say it out loud to a stranger. MindCare exists to lower that first step — somewhere you can start on your own, at your own hour, and where a counselor can still find you if you need one.

Vision

Where we're going

I'd like checking in on yourself to be as ordinary as checking your class schedule — not something you only do once things have gone badly. Beyond this campus, I hope MindCare is a workable starting point for any school that wants to give its students something like this.

"You don't have to be positive all the time. It's perfectly okay to feel sad, angry, annoyed, or anxious. Having feelings doesn't make you a negative person — it makes you human."
— Lori Deschene
What we stand for

Core Values

Six rules I kept coming back to while building this.

01

Compassion

Nothing here scolds you for a missed day or a bad week. You should be able to come back after a month away and not be met with a guilt trip.

02

Privacy & Safety

What you write stays in your account. The Guidance Office gets a summary of the tone of your chats, never a transcript — and if a session looks serious, a counselor is told, because being awkward beats being sorry.

03

Small steps

Two activities you'll actually keep beat ten you'll abandon by Thursday. The planner is built for the smaller number.

04

Accessibility

Free, works on the phone you already have, and readable on a slow connection. Cost and data shouldn't be the reason you don't get help.

05

Honesty

MindCare tells you what it collects, who sees it, and what it can't do. It's a support tool, not a therapist, and it says so wherever that matters.

06

Grounded in research

The readings and activities come from established wellness and psychology material, not from whatever was trending that week.

What MindCare offers

The seven parts, in short

A planner you can add your own tasks to, a chatbot, a mood log, a self-rated wellness check-in, a resource library, tone analysis that only the Guidance Office reads, and a way to request a counseling session. Each one is explained on the homepage.

How it started

The story behind MindCare

It started as a capstone requirement and turned into something I actually wanted to finish properly.

The Idea
Noticing the gap
Everyone knew a classmate who was having a hard time. Almost none of them had been to Guidance. The distance between those two facts is where this started.
Research
Reading up first
I went through student well-being studies, existing self-care frameworks, and what's already been tried with AI in mental health support — including what hasn't worked.
Development
Building it
The planner, the mood log, the chatbot, the check-in, and the Guidance Office side — designed, written, and rewritten more than once.
Today
In use, and still changing
MindCare is a working web app rather than a demo, and I'm still fixing and adding things as students say what's missing.
The person behind it

Who made this

One student at Occidental Mindoro State University. This was the capstone.
